Aerial Work Platform Lift Training & Cert Class for ANSI, OSHA, CSA GN160674SP (Spanish Web Version)Terex Aerial Work Platforms (AWP) is launching an online operator training scheme called Genie Lift Pro that will be offered by authorized training centers in North America. The online training, undertaken before hands-on training with a qualified trainer, will be offered initially in North America and will meet ANSI and OSHA standards in the US and those of the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). A future launch in other markets is a possibility, said Terex AWP. The training, which will cost $299.00 per trainee, will be offered by Genie customers and dealers who meet specified criteria, and it will also be possible for independent companies to establish Lift Pro training operations. The online training takes around three hours to complete and can be undertaken when the trainee chooses, at work or at home. The online sessions are followed by a practical, hands-on training. The Lift Pro training “gives end users the ability to train at their own pace and on their own schedule. This is completely unprecedented in the industry, and we anticipate the program will potentially increase both productivity and safety on the job site.” The course covers self-propelled booms and scissors and trailer mounted products, and Terex said it will cover most brands of equipment. Terex said that by making the training available online to end users, employers could potentially increase jobsite efficiency by replacing traditional class-room training qualification programs. A 30-question exam is administered upon completion of the online training modules, and end users are required to answer all questions correctly. If an incorrect answer is given, participants are required to return to the module and seek the correct answer. The online Lift Pro training is followed by practical classes. After online exam is complete you must schedule an appointment with a Discount Equipment lift specialist to complete the hands on proficiency test on the equipment at a Discount Equipment location. Once both exams are completed and passed an "AWP Certification Card" will be given to the operator. FAQ: What is Lift Pro Online Training? Genie® Lift Pro™ Online Operator Training is a high quality professional‐grade program that is delivered through a web‐based platform and is designed to satisfy the general training requirements for aerial work platforms as defined by ANSI, OSHA and CSA. The program incorporates current adult learning theory and consists of detailed graphics, narration, video and a variety of quizzes that provide a rich and interactive learning environment for the trainee. At the end of the program there is a thirty question exam to verify knowledge retention. Upon passing the exam, a certificate of completion is presented as proof of training in preparation for the hands‐on portion; after completing the online training, the trainee must receive hands‐on familiarization from a qualified person to complete the training process and become a qualified operator. Why is Genie offering this type of training program? By offering this course online, a much broader range of individuals will have access to the opportunity to become a qualified operator, and a wider range of Genie customers who don’t currently offer this type of program will have the ability to provide high quality operator training to their end users. By increasing the percentage of operators who have received quality training through this program, we are all contributing to the improvement of overall aerial work platform industry safety. How does Lift Pro Online differ from the Genie packaged training course? The online program is based on, and remains consistent with, the current packaged training program that the industry is using today. Because it is not instructor led, it does include additional and more detailed information on certain topics, and presents considerably more quizzes and final exam questions than the classroom version. Is Lift Pro better than the other existing training programs currently in use? Genie believes that the majority of the training programs being offered today by legitimate training providers serve their purpose of increasing operator safety in the industry; an activity that we strongly support and encourage. The Genie Lift Pro Online Training Program is simply an alternative means of providing affordable and accessible high‐quality training to a broader range of individuals wishing to become qualified aerial work platform operators. How long does it take to complete? The online program takes approximately three hours to complete. However, it can be done at the trainee’s leisure; they can leave the program at any time and return where they left off. They may choose to complete the course in one sitting or they may break it up and do a short section each day. They learn at their own pace, in their own way. The hands‐on familiarization will vary in time based on the trainee’s experience and the type of aerial work platform to be used. Does it only cover Genie products? No. Because the training is general in nature, it covers safe operating practices and principles for almost all brands, makes and models of aerial work platforms. The handson familiarization that must follow is model‐specific and should be performed on the specific model of aerial work platform that the trainee will be operating. Detailed information on how to perform the hands‐on familiarization will be provided to each Authorized Genie Lift Pro Training Center. Do I have to provide the hands‐on familiarization? The hands‐on familiarization component can be provided by any qualified person as defined by ANSI. It can be performed by a qualified person at the rental yard where the program was originally sold, at the jobsite where the machine will be operated, or wherever the machine is located. ANSI defines a qualified person as: “One who, by possession of a recognized degree, certificate, or professional standing, or by extensive knowledge, training, and experience, has successfully demonstrated his or her ability to solve or resolve problems related to the subject matter, the work, or the project”. What exactly does hands‐on familiarization entail? The qualified person must verify that the operator is familiar with the model of aerial work platform to be operated, and specifically: 1. Knows the location of the weather resistant compartment for manual storage, 2. Knows the operating and responsibilities manuals supplied by the manufacturer are stored in the weather resistant compartment and is familiar with the information found in the operating and safety manuals, 3. Understands all control functions, decals and warnings, and 4. Is aware of and understands all safety devices specific to the model of aerial work platform being used. The qualified person assessing the trainee’s proficiency will also be expecting them to demonstrate their knowledge of the five principles of safe machine operation: 1. Avoid hazardous situations 2. Perform a pre‐operation inspection on the machine 3. Perform function tests prior to use 4. Inspect the workplace 5. Only use the machine as it was intended. The trainee will need to operate the aerial platform for sufficient time in front of the qualified person at Discount Equipment to demonstrate proficiency in the actual operation of the machine.
