Edco A106 Grinder Startup Pack 6 (6 StripSerts w/Carbides & Wedges)Strip-Serts are tungsten carbide inserts designed to remove heavy build up without damaging the concrete. The Strip-Sert has four beveled edges and is easily replaced when worn. Each side is rated to last 2 to 4 hours (or 500 to 1000 sq. ft.) Strip Serts are ideal for removing heavy mastics, paints, resins, tar, fiberglass, ice, industrial buildups and rubber deposits. Note: Strip-Serts will only strip the coatings and will not damage the concrete floor. Keeping this in mind, please remember that some times coatings will sink into the top layer surface of the concrete. Do not use the Strip-Serts for that application. Use the Dyma-Serts if a clean concrete finish is desired. Tip: If the material to be removed can be cut with a knife, use the Strip-Serts especially if the material is thicker than 1/16.” Warning: Do not use the Strip-Serts on Elastomeric or Waterproof Membranes. Caution: Adding weights to the grinder with Strip-Serts may not be suitable for removing thick buildup of materials. The extra weight may cause the machine to aggressively grind the material and cause it to jump around and kick out the Strip-Serts. In that situation, remove the weights. Caution: Strip-Serts are designed to strip away coatings not to grind concrete. Grinding concrete with Strip Serts will dull the sharp edges quickly causing the grinding action to stop. How to Load Multi-Accessory Disc with Correct Accessory Properly loading the accessories is important. Improper loading can cause damage to the accessories. Do not attempt to grind the concrete with the multi-accessory disc. A clear indication that a customer has done this is when a gray/silver mark on the concrete surface is noticed. Use EDCO approved wooden wedges when loading the accessories. When loading the wooden wedges, they must be between the accessory and the inner wall of the disc. Dyma-Serts can be loaded in either direction. However it is very important that after a day’s rental that the Dyma-Serts be flipped 180 degrees and then re-inserted. Failure to do so will result in uneven wear of the Dyma-Serts. Strip-Serts must be inserted one way and one way only. The spring end of the inserts or the open end of the Strip-Sert must be pointed towards the center of the disc. The sharp end of the Strip-Serts should be facing the open end of the disc. All other accessories can be loaded in either direction. (i.e. grinding stones, scarifier assemblies & wire brushes). Grinding - Frequently Asked Questions I have a question about Dyma-Serts. What is the difference between the general purpose diamonds and the epoxy mortar diamonds? Can you use the epoxy mortar diamonds to grind concrete? Would the epoxy diamonds last longer than general purpose diamonds? Answer: We have three different matrices for our Dyma-Serts: The 1X - General purpose, 2X - Abrasive Concrete and 3X - Epoxy Mortar. The principal behind the Dyma-Serts is that you have diamond segments bonded to a steel matrix. The diamonds in the steel matrix does the actually grinding, so as the steel matrix wears down, it constantly exposes new diamonds to grind with. For the most part the 1X works fine throughout the majority of the country. However, when encountering abrasive concrete - due to adding abrasive aggregate in concrete like sand, granite, etc or if the concrete is only 2 weeks old; the 1X does not last too long as the abrasive materials eats away the steel matrices too quickly. So, in that scenario you will need to use the 2X which has a stronger steel matrices to resist the abrasiveness. The Epoxy Mortar is even more abrasive which means that the 1X will not last at all and the 2X will do better but will not last up to its optimal life. The 3X has even stronger steel matrices. In answer to your 2nd question, the 3X can be used on regular concrete. But, because the steel matrices is so hard, it takes it lot longer to wear away and expose the diamonds. This would mean that your 3X will last longer than the 1X on regular concrete but it would grind much slower than the 1X. Learn More About Dyma-Serts What is the best motion to use when grinding? Should I work the grinder forward and backward or in a side to side motion? Answer: EDCO recommends using the grinder in a side to side motion. Grinding in a side to side motion works naturally with the spinning discs on the grinder and will help eliminate swirl marks, leaving you with a higher quality surface. Pushing the grinder forward can leave swirl marks on the surface. Is it common for grinder accessories to knock out of a single or dual-disc grinder? Answer: Yes, having the accessories knock out is a safety feature for the operator and saves wear and tear on the grinder. It is better to have the accessories knock out than for the grinder to jerk and spin out of control when it hits a tough spot in the surface. Learn more about Grinder Accessories Question: What do I use a Strip-Sert for? Answer: Remove heavy build-up of paint, mastic, resins, tar, fiberglass, ice or much more without damaging the concrete surface. Tip: Can you cut the surface material with a putty knife or exacto knife? If so, use Strip Serts as your Grinder Accessory! Learn more about Strip-Serts. Question: The Dyma-Serts on my grinder are not wearing evenly. How can I fix this problem? Answer: The Dyma-Serts need to be rotated. Tip: Dyma-Serts need to be rotated 180 degrees every 4 hours because the leading edge of the Dyma-Sert wears down first. It is the same reason that tires need to be rotated on a car. Learn more about Dyma-Serts Can a 10" high-speed disc fit on a dual-disc or single-disc grinder? Answer: No, the 10" high-speed disc does not fit on a dual or single-disc grinder, Even if it did, the regular grinders do not have enough RPM's to spin the disc fast enough to work efficiently
